i believe you can indeed suffer permanent hearing loss when using extremely loud and super-high pitched whistles. i use acme thunderer 660 and 560 and the ringing in my ears after a game is not noticable. when i use a fox 40 then my ears end up ringing for the entire day afterwards. the fox 40 is too loud. your whistle doesn't have to be that loud. jb.
