Hi. I've watched perhaps 22-24 HS games, both JV and varsity boys and girls
in eastern MA this fall and seen the black shirts perhaps 4-5 times which I
guess goes along with the quotes around "approved" in the note below. (and
2 of those times were from the same single CR in JV game who also wore his
triangular "whaling city referee associatioin" triangle patch instead of
the round emsoa one.
The STANDARD in games that I've seen is the gold. not seen the pink
stuff once ( except the jv game with one pink and one gold). and NONE of
these games were ones in which the visitors were wearing anything close to
anyway, while we can make rules and give recommendations and "agree to wear
whatever color", truth seems to be that there are not ENOUGH refs to go
around and HS ends up being grateful if they get a decent one regradless of
what the color is. and "not enough refs is impacted TREMENDOUSLY by the
fact that most games around here start at 3:15 meaning you normally need
someone who doesn't have a day job. (I have a friend who does MANY games
each week as he works third shift and is thus always available).
