Subject: Hamm Vaulting???
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

Mike You got me for a moment - - (especially if you know Gus...) Jim Gordon already "HAMMered" me yesterday about my Hamm comments. I like Mia Hamm. If you asked me to pick my all time women's team, she would be on it. I love to use her as an example to my two boys... watch how she is aware of the field, how she uses the field, how she goes from end-to-end.... She is a "marquee" player. She puts people in the seats (just look at WUSA attendance in games that Mia is in). That is what the WUSA is all about.... entertaining people, and eventually making a profit for its investors. Mia will assist in doing that. I guess I just "snapped" the other night while reading some more "goal scorer hype" on the WUSA web site. Take the Eric Wynalda analogy.... All those goals for the National team, but what about the World Cup games? The statistics are there for Hamm: Goals in three Women's World Cups (18 games): 6 Goals in two Olympics (10 games): 3 When Michele Akers plays (3 golds: 2 WWC and one Olympic) When Akers doesn't play: bronze and silver Hamm played in all five tournaments In the WUSA 6 goals in 19 games Hamm scores about one goal per three games in Real competition. Hamm is not as much a goal scorer as she is a play maker. (She was a mid-fielder earlier in her career with the National team). I guess it is the statement: "she broke the all-time international scoring record, for men and women, on May 16, 1999..." For men or women. Tell that one to Maradona and Pele. It is easy when most of the games you play are "Internationals", against.....? Anyway, Good luck to Gus and Peter and Best of Luck to Mia... now and next season. Hey, sometimes I just "rant"....... Thanks for listening. Peace - Stag {Original Message} From: Michael Cotleur <[log in to unmask]> Subject: Re: Vaulting ahead Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Oh, Yeah??? And how many goals have they scored? Tell me, Stag - does your disdain for "that other white meat" come from a religious conversion to Judaism, or perhaps Islam? <g> mdc (I like hamm with my wusa yeggs) >>> [log in to unmask] 08/15/01 10:13AM >>> Two local (Boston area) referees seem to be making some headway in the MLS. Gus St. Silva will be at Chicago this evening (Fusion @ Fire) Peter Kokolski will be in Kansas City (Galaxy @ Wizards) and Peter just did the Crew at the Earthquake this past weekend. This is Gus's 2nd year as a National. This is Peter's 4th or 5th. Why them out of dozens of potential candidates? <snip>
