Anyone have any thoughts about the refereeing in the cup final between UNAM
and Boca Jrs? I'm particuarly interested in whether anyone else thought the
ref showed weakness by failing to issue a RC to the Boca keeper for his
handling outside the area -- what appeared to me to be a clear case of
DOGSO/F. The keeper was at least 5 yards outside of the PA and dove to his
right to deflect the ball away from the attacker. There was no one left
between the keeper and the goal. What was missing in this situation that
allowed the ref to keep the RC in his pocket?
And, as it happened, this decision did have an effect on the match, allowing
this keeper to stay in the game to the end.
