When I was in LA (mid-80's) the people I skated with who had LA Kings team
jackets...... well, they worked for the Kings. They would Never wear an
LA Kings' game jersey. Those that did wear a game jersey, played for the
Kings and would get some extra ice-time with us during the summer.

Even here in North Carolina, where a ponds never freeze over long or solidly
enough to permit skating, it is very common for adult fans of the Carolina
Hurricanes Pro Hockey team to wear replica team jerseys (of their favorite
player) to games - probably at least one out of every ten (among 10-20,000
in attendance) adults comes to games in a team jersey. It's even
unremarkably common to see adults wearing team jerseys out in shopping malls
going Chris mas shopping, and this is RALEIGH, North Carolina, not Toronto,
Detroit, or Montreal. Most popular jersey you'll see adults wearing is #17
Rod Brind'Amour, followed closely by #26 Erik Cole, or #13 Ray Whitney.
THE ONLY THING WEIRD ABOUT THIS IS that IT IS INDEED VERY RARE to see adults
dressed in replica UNC or NC State basketball uniforms - it's vastly
overwhelmingly kids and teens who do that, pretty much for the reasons Stag
listed in his post (doesn't look proper past a certain age). College
basketball is HUGE down here. Nor do adults around here often wear
European/EPL/South American league team jersey replicas - it's mostly
soccer-playing youth.
But even with a disappointing basement-struggling Carolina Hurricanes team
this season, you'll see plenty of adult fans around town wearing Carolina
Hurricanes replica jerseys. Go figure.
