Regarding the recent thread about goal keeper responsibility to get the ball back in play and time wasting, I asked JA and here is the Q&A: _____________________________ Jim, Assuming that there are no ball handlers and no extra balls next to the goal, whose responsibility is it to fetch the ball (for a goal kick) that has been kicked some yards away from the goal? Does the (winning) goal keeper have to make a reasonable effort to fetch the ball as fast as he can? What if he deliberately walks slowly to fetch the ball? Is he guilty of time wasting? Thanks, Reza. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Ask A Referee <[log in to unmask]> Date: Fri, Oct 29, 2010 at 10:57 AM Subject: RE: time wasting To: Reza Pazirandeh <[log in to unmask]> The nearest member of the kicking team should do it, Reza. If they delay, add on time and warn that they are wasting time. The second time, nail the player with a caution for delaying the restart. Jim Jim Allen USSF National Instructor Staff
